The Mulund Fire Brigade Ganesh Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shri Ganesh. It is located in Mulund West, on LBS Marg, opposite Johnson and Johnson company, Mumbai, India. It was initially built 50 years back by the staff of the Fire Brigade as a symbol of togetherness. Maharashtrians have a great belief and faith in Lord Ganesh.
Entrance
People of Mulund started gathering on Tuesday for the aarti of Lord Ganesh which started to get its popularity locally. Every year thousands of devotees visit temple at magi Ganesh Jayanti the day which is celebrated as the Birthday of lord Ganesh. It broke the record in 2023 the highest of all times more than 13,000 devotees visited. In the year 2006 staff of the Fire Brigade decided to rebuild it, as previously it was a small temple with external dimensions of 4 feet by 6 feet. In 2006 Mr. Pankaj Kholakia, a renowned designer was asked to design and construct this temple, where N K Design Studio came into existence. Mr. Pankaj Kholakia and his Son Ar. Niraj Kholakia, designed and came up with sustainable and practical designs. They suggested using natural, local, and easily available marble and stone.
Spacious Ventilated Interiors
The designs are unique, dense, and beautifully hand-crafted. Marbles & stones used are white marble, yellow Jaisalmer, brown granite & green Baroda.
Gharbhagriya Interior
Technical dimensions are 18 Feet Wide X 50 Feet Deep X 21 Feet Height
The Temple womb (Gharbhagriya) is the highlight of it where the murti is placed and greetings are made during morning and evening in the form of Ganesh aarti. To highlight it, many small marble cut stone details are used with yellow Jaisalmer, white marble, and brown granite; it gives a unique detailed specification and recurring line of the pattern.
Gharbhagriya Exterior
The throne of Ganesh Murti is also uniquely designed and a royal traditional touch is given with a combination of marble and stones. Circular and triangular shapes are placed in a circular form which stands out with their royal aesthetics.
Side Exterior of Gharbhagriya
Diagonal areas of the womb (Gharbhagriya) are also given a small chamfer to avoid sharp corners. These corners are also beautified with small shaped stones and a column for Sikhara originated. Shikhara, Amalaka is made of RCC. Visitors can stand at the corner and chant the Ganesh path which is placed over here without interrupting anyone.
Mushak Aasan
Columns are also placed according to structural load distribution. To make it somewhat different we thought of placing a sitting area for visitors so that they won’t interrupt the circulation of visitors. Beams are also beautified with arcs and spherical balls.
The ceiling was a tough task to design so they decided to add only 2 fans as it was naturally ventilated and didn’t require many HVAC systems. The moto to design this temple was to make it a simple and peaceful place to visit.
Archs, spheres, circles, rectangles, and squares are the dominating simple shapes of this temple. Here are some images of Ganesh temple which define its peaceful simplicity.
